WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW IF I PICK UP MY YURT AT YOUR FACILITY?

Will Call hours are 8:00 AM–3:00 PM, Mon–Fri. Arrive in a vehicle with tie-down hooks to safely transport your yurt. You are primarily responsible for securing your load. Please discuss this in detail with your sales representative.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE TO RECEIVE MY YURT SHIPMENT?

Stay in contact with the freight broker to determine your yurts' delivery date/time. Residential deliveries require an appointment that the freight company will coordinate.

WHAT IF THE SITE IS NOT ACCESSIBLE TO LARGE TRUCKS?

You have a few choices:
1. Arrange to pick up your yurt at the local terminal.
2. Offer to meet the freight carrier at a different location.
3. Ask the freight broker for a quote that includes special services in non-standard equipment.

WHY DO I NEED SCAFFOLDING?

Scaffolding will help support the ring as you install the rafters. It makes the job both faster and safer. The instruction manual shows the sizes we recommend relative to the size of your yurt.

WHO WILL INSTALL MY YURT?

In most cases, our customers install their own Rainier Outdoor yurts, but some prefer hiring a contractor. We provide a step-by-step set-up manual and a toll-free number (within the United States). We can answer any installation questions.
Contact us if you're searching for a contractor to install your yurt. We have a list of private contractors we're happy to recommend.
The time spent to install your yurt will vary depending on your site, weather conditions, the number of people helping with installation, and which options your yurt has. Assuming the deck is in place, a smaller yurt can be set up in a day, while a large yurt may take a couple of days. It is best not to set a time limit for yourself and follow the setup instructions provided.

WHAT IS A YURT PLATFORM?

The yurt platform lives at the base of your yurt to provide a crawl space for plumbing, wiring, or storage. We recommend buying local materials and building the yurt platform per our plans, according to local site conditions and code requirements. Rainier Outdoor partnered with an engineer to provide site-specific deck plans for approximately 3,500 on-level sites. Sloped sites will cost more.

CAN YURTS BE CONNECTED?

Many customers buy two or more yurts and connect them with a covered walkway, breezeway, or enclosed hallway. Some customers connect their yurt to a bathhouse. Rainier can assist in designing these connections.

CAN INTERIOR PARTITION WALLS BE ADDED?

Customers add interior partition walls to provide separate bathrooms, bedrooms, or kitchen spaces. The interior partition walls are simple to add to the yurt after it's built. The partition walls should be freestanding or attached to the floor; you cannot attach anything that's load-bearing to the rafters or the lattice wall.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO COOL MY YURT?

We have several options to help keep your yurt cool. Our full insulation package keeps the heat out, and the tinted dome option reduces solar gain. You can also upgrade to an opening dome with a screen for excellent ventilation.

After designing your yurt to keep the heat out, fans and air conditioners will get you the rest of the way! Some customers use swamp coolers or heat pumps to cool their yurts. One of our favorite options is the 37,000 BTU Mitsubishi Mini Split.

HOW DO I ADD LIGHTING?

Installing electricity in your yurt is similar to installing electricity in an average home. You can include any light fixture in your yurt. Customers have installed track lighting on the rafters, overhead lights to the center ring, floor or table lamps, and propane lights. Many prefer the safety of low-voltage lighting in their yurts. Please contact local electrical professionals or your Rainier Outdoor representative for ideas.

IS THERE A WARRANTY ON YOUR PRODUCTS?

Yes, we offer a Limited Warranty on our Yurts, Cottages, Wall Tents and Tipis.

1. Warranty. Rainier Industries Ltd. (Rainier), a Washington corporation warrants, to the first Purchaser only, the Rainier Yurt to be free from defective materials and workmanship, when properly maintained and under normal use and service, for a period of one year following delivery. Should the yurt prove defective within this warranty period, Rainier will repair or replace the defect, at Rainier’s option. Rainier does not warrant the fabric used for the yurt. Rather, all fabrics are warranted by the manufacturers of the fabric, and not directly by Rainier. Limited fabric warranties as offered by our suppliers can be summarized as follows:

  • Heavy duty 28 ounce roof fabric 15 Years
  • Eagle 19 ounce standard roof fabric 10 Years
  • Raven 18 ounce standard roof fabric 7 Years
  • Wall fabrics 5 Years

Fabric warranties generally cover colorfastness, rot and mildew. Fabric warranties are available upon request. Notwithstanding that Rainier does not warrant the fabric, Rainier will, at its election, either pay the labor cost to repair or replace the fabric itself should it fail, during the initial one year period.

2. Purchaser’s Duties. The Purchaser shall give written notice to Rainier Outdoor, of any alleged failure of the structure, seams, or fabric within this limited warranty period, no later then 15 days after the Purchaser learns of such failure.

3. Disclaimer and Exclusion of Warranties. There is no express or implied warranty, representation or condition of any kind (including without limitation warranty of merchantability or of fitness for use) except for the express warranty in paragraph 1 of this Limited Warranty, and no further warranty shall be implied by law.

4. Exclusion. The Purchaser must keep account current for warranty to apply. This warranty and all of Rainier’s obligations stated herein shall not apply to: a. any repairs or alterations made without the prior approval of Rainier; b. any yurt damaged by misuse, abuse, vandalism, or accident, or Act of God; c. materials, including fabrics, which are subject to warranties, if any, given by the manufacturers thereof. Rainier does not adopt these warranties; d. clear vinyl windows; e. exposed wood surfaces that are not maintained; f. any costs associated with the installation of replaced yurt components g. any freight costs to ship product to or from any of our factory locations.

5. Limitation of Liability. It is understood and agreed that Rainier’s liability, whether in contract, in tort, under any warranty, in negligence or otherwise, shall be limited to the undertaking set out above in paragraph 1 of this Limited Warranty, and under no circumstances shall Rainier be liable for special, indirect or consequential damages. The price stated for the items purchased is a consideration in limiting Rainier’s liability.

6. Limitation of Actions. No action for breach of warranty shall be commenced by the Purchaser more than one year after the accrual of the alleged cause of action.

7. Merger. This written warranty is the complete, final and exclusive agreement of the parties with respect to the quality and performance of the yurt and to any and all warranties and representations related to it.

8. No Oral Modification or Waiver. No modification of this warranty, or waiver of its terms, shall be binding on either party unless approved in writing by both parties.

9. Governing Law. This warranty, and the rights and duties of the parties under it, shall be governed by the laws of the State of Washington.

HOW DO I UNLOAD MY YURT(S) FROM THE TRUCK?

You will need a forklift or 3-4 people to unload your yurt crates. The large crate is too heavy to remove from the truck by hand. You can disassemble the crate and carry the contents off. If you do not have a forklift or the desired number of people to help, ask the freight broker if they have a truck with a lift gate.

HOW DO I ARRANGE FOR SHIPPING MY YURT?

Rainier Outdoor partners with a freight broker who determines the lowest-cost freight prices, thus offering potential discounts to our customers. Once your yurt is complete, our freight broker will take over, contacting you to arrange for the delivery.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO SHIP MY YURT?

Shipping costs will vary depending on the destination, size, and which options your yurt has. Rainier Outdoor can obtain shipping estimates to a particular location, but you will need to know what size yurt and which options you are considering in order to receive an accurate estimate.

CAN I HIRE SOMEONE FROM RAINIER OUTDOOR TO INSTALL MY YURT?

We are happy to provide a list of "Rainier-approved" private contractors throughout North America to oversee your yurt raising and help you put your yurt up. You will need to provide the crew, tools, and scaffolding. Please give us a call to discuss this in detail.

CAN I ADD EXTERIOR DECKING?

Any exterior decking should be at least 5" below the interior floor of the yurt to avoid leaks. The placement of exterior decking allows the side cover of the yurts to hang below floor level and secure to the platform. This attachment firmly secures the side cover to the yurt platform and provides a weather-tight seal.

WHAT PLATFORM STYLES ARE AVAILABLE?

Standard Wooden Platform: poured concrete footings, posts, beams, and joists.

Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) Platform: 6" pre-insulated R-24 foam-core decking can span eight feet. It comes pre-cut to the exact diameter of your yurt. Structural Insulated Panels help you build your platform faster and with fewer parts. SIPs are available directly from Rainier Outdoor.

CAN MY YURT HAVE A LOFT?

Lofts are a great way to maximize space inside larger yurts! Rainier Outdoor yurts can accommodate a loft because of their tall walls. We've had customers build lofts of all different shapes, sizes, and heights in their yurts. Lofts should be freestanding structures built into the yurt after its built and not attached to the roof rafters of the yurt. They can create private space below for a bathroom or bedroom or be left open.

HOW DO I ADD A BATHROOM?

Construction on the bathroom should begin after the yurt is installed and by a local licensed contractor. The plumbing connects to the bathroom through the floor of the yurt. Venting from the bathroom can be accomplished with downdraft vents through the floor or the yurt wall using a flashing kit. Proper ventilation will reduce moisture inside the yurt and prevent condensation.

HOW DO I HEAT MY YURT?

Customers use wood, pellet, propane stoves, central heating, electric heaters, and even radiant floor heating. If you use central heating or a heat pump, ductwork is professionally installed under the floor of the yurt. Your woodstove should vent through the sidewall of the yurt, not through the roof.

CAN I ADD PLUMBING TO MY YURT?

Plumbing can easily insert through the floor of the yurt or the interior walls after it is built into the floor. You can incorporate standard fixtures if the site has plumbing and septic hookups. Off-the-grid customers often use composting toilets and alternative gray water systems. Consult with a licensed plumber for more information.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CABIN AND A COTTAGE?

Most cabins are built with wood as the primary source, while cottages are hand-crafted with many materials. Our screen windows zip up with a privacy flap or tie-back to let the natural sunlight and fresh air into the space. The tent-style door opens to the ridge, which allows an open, airy feel and easy access.

HOW MANY SIZES DO YOUR COTTAGES COME IN?

The Canvas Cottage comes in twenty sizes in the form of rectangles and squares. We offer sizes from 10x12 up to 16x22.

DO I NEED A PLATFORM FOR MY COTTAGE?

Yes! Your cottage requires a raised platform to sit on, as the ratchet for the tension straps needs to be under the platform for your fabric to be taut.

DO I NEED TO PURCHASE A RAINFLY SEPARATELY?

No! All cottages come with rain flys. We assume it will be up for a long time, and want it to stay in tip-top shape.
