The True Cost of Building a Yurt: Shipping

Congratulations! You’ve made it to the end of our True Cost of Building a Yurt series. In this section, we will cover The True Cost of Building a Yurt: Shipping edition. We will walk you through our quality check procedures, packaging, Will Call, and shipping information. We highly encourage you to read through parts 1, part 2, and part 3 of our True Cost of Building a Yurt series to follow along with our yurt buyers’ experience.

For part one of our series, The True Cost of Building a Yurt: Introduction, we touch on permits, insulation, location, the platform, floor plans, and of course pricing.

In installment number two of our series, The True Cost of Building a Yurt: Package, we will provide insight into three new yurt owners and price comparisons of their custom yurts.

For part three of our series, The True Cost of Building a Yurt: Platform, where we walk you through building a yurt platform from start to finish. We will also discuss platform options along with estimated labor and costs associated with each.

Once your yurt manufacturing is complete, it will be sent to our packaging and shipping department! As part of our quality assurance policy, we crate your brand-new yurt whether you pick up in Will Call or select our shipping option. Our team seals all your yurt components inside the crate after the last quality check. This process ensures that every yurt piece is protected from storage or shipping mishaps.

If you’ve selected a 16ft or 18ft Eagle or Raven yurt, then your yurt will come in four crates that vary in size and weight. The final weight of your crates will depend on the weight of your yurt.

The larger Eagle and Raven yurts (sizes 21ft – 33ft) will come in five separate crates, the main crate, the fabric crate, the lattice crate, a ring/dome crate, and a rafter crate. The dome crate is 6'-2" x 6'-2" x 18” and weighs 340 pounds. The rafters are bundled in a single crate to keep them all together and protected from scratches and dents. The rafter crate will be the length of the rafters, which is up to 26" x 26" x 16’ long with a weight of up to 1550 pounds.

For anyone looking to pick up their yurt directly from our facility in Tukwila, WA., we welcome you to do so during pick-up hours, between 9 a.m-4:30 p.m, Monday through Friday. We request that you schedule your pick-up in advance with your sales representative. If you purchased your yurt online, we request that you give us a call and schedule a pick-up with our shipping department. We have provided loading details for every size of a yurt as a downloadable PDF. We love to meet our customers in person and look forward to your visit!
