Relax in a Cascade Canvas Tent

Glamping in Pacific City, Oregon

My family and I took a trip to Cape Kiwanda, Oregon for a weekend getaway. We take a trip to the Pacific Ocean once a year and always enjoy spending our time outdoors. I grabbed the Cascade Canvas Tent and decided to set it up on the beach for the day! If you're familiar with the Oregon coast, you know how a sunny day can quickly turn into a 20 mph windy day. However, I am familiar with the sustainability of the Army Duck fabric used for the tent. Army Duck fabric is the most durable tent fabric available because it is fabricated with 100% cotton, thus creating a sturdy and water-repellent fabric.

We packed up my compact vehicle and arrived at Cape Kiwanda, Oregon in the morning. I took some time to decide the best place to set up camp for the day and found a 20 ft. space for the tent.

Setting Up Camp

Setting up the Cascade Canvas Tent was simple! All the poles are the same size, except the one pole that is placed inside the tent. We quickly established a method of our own and got to work!

  1. First, we laid out the tent and faced the entrance towards haystack rock.
  2. We staked the four corners of the tent, pulling each corner tight as we went.
  3. I like to lay each pole next to its designated strap with the spike facing toward the tent fabric.
  4. Then, we stuck each pole (spike facing the sky) into the straps, grabbed the rope associated with each strap, and staked the rope about 4 ft. from the tent.
  5. We placed the tall telescoping pole inside the center of the tent to elevate our structure.
  6. Lastly, we fastened the two adjustable metal poles into place at the entrance of our tent. And, grabbed the associated rope to stake down the front.
  7. We finished within an hour and had the rest of the day to enjoy on the beach!

The Interior

We packed our surfboards, coolers, and beach toys into the tent for safekeeping while we were out enjoying the waves. Then, set up an indoor play area for my one-year-old cousin, and opened the interior windows facing the ocean to keep an eye on her. We zipped the screen on the entrance of the tent to keep the sand out. My family noticed how large the Cascade Canvas Tent is on the inside, commenting that it was deceiving to look at from the outside.

The Windy Coast

Pacific City, Oregon was about 70 degrees that day with 8-10 mph winds. We are always prepared for the weather changes that rapidly occur between high-tide and low-tide. In the afternoon, I was in the ocean surfing when I noticed how quickly the wind had picked up. I went to shore to grab a snack and check on the Cascade Canvas Tent. While tugging on the ropes and checking the polls, I noticed that the stakes in the sand had not moved a bit! The Cascade Canvas Tent is manufactured with a sturdy fabric, but experiencing the features in person was amazing! The Cascade Canvas Tent withheld a considerable amount of wind gusts and sand that day without coming loose or shifting from place.

Packing Up Camp

We reached sunset and decided it was time to pack up camp. The Cascade Canvas Tent is a 12’ x 12’ tent with 48” tall side walls but is easily compressed into compact spaces. With the help of two others, the tent was packed up and ready to transport within 20 minutes.

Guide to Packing the Cascade Canvas Tent

  1. First, we took the tall telescoping pole out of place from the inside of the tent.
  2. We pulled the stakes out of the sand and placed them to the side.
  3. Then, we took each tent pole out of its strap and set them aside.
  4. We took the ropes and tossed them towards the center of the tent.
  5. I folded the tent in half for a more compact rolling process, then began tightly rolling the tent from the entrance to the back.
  6. Finally, we placed the poles on top of the rolled tent, put the stakes in our bag, and made our way home.
