Wall Tent Features You'll Want for Hunting Season

It’s no secret that our team loves experiencing the great outdoors. At Rainier Outdoor, we often find ourselves off the grid, whether it’s in the middle of the woods in Utah with our Eagle Yurts or hunting in Eastern Oregon with a Centennial Wall Tent. We love having the opportunity to touch, smell and experience what it’s like to use our products.

What Are Wall Tents and Why Do I Need One?

The Centennial Wall Tent is considered one of our longest-standing products because it has survived unchanged for over a century. Our Wall Tent is highly reputed in the hunting industry because it guarantees effective protection from wind, rain, or snow. All Rainier Outdoor Wall Tents are manufactured with 10oz. 100% Army Duck Canvas, Double Layer Roof Ends, 40oz. Reinforcements, YKK Heavy-Duty Zipper, Fastex Side Release Buckles, a Stove Jack, 12” Vinyl Sod Cloth, and Triple Layer Hems for Grommets.

The 100% Army Duck Cotton Canvas is treated to be flame retardant (CPAI-84), water repellent, and mildew resistant. It is a natural canvas color and finishes at about 12 oz. per square yard. Army Duck Canvas has the remarkable quality of being highly water repellent which keeps you protected from heavy rain or snow. The benefit of using 100% Army Duck Cotton comes when it rains because the fibers swell up to make the tent even more water-repellent.

The Centennial Wall Tent comes in three standard sizes, however, it’s customizable to match eight different sizes. We have wall tents suitable to fit the large elk camp hunters or small duck hunting groups. Our most popular sizes for large groups are 12x16’ and 16x20’, but we also offer 10x12’ tents for those of you that prefer to travel light.

For 125 years, sportsmen, campers, trekkers, hunters, and those seeking temporary and convenient shelter in remote locations have known that Rainier Outdoor makes the ultimate wall tent. Our wall tents protect single hunters and hunting families year-round in virtually every kind of weather.

Why Are Wall Tents Used on Hunting Trips?

Hunting trips tend to take a toll on your traditional camping equipment. That’s why Rainier Outdoor includes an exclusive heavy-duty interior frame with every Centennial Wall Tent. All Rainier Outdoor Wall Tents are made with 1 3/8” galvanized steel tubing that was chosen for its incredible strength.

The Centennial Wall Tent is great for hunting trips with large or small groups of family and friends. As mentioned above, we provide several sizes to accommodate the number of people in your group, for example, the 12x16 Centennial Wall Tent sleeps three hunters comfortably with room for a stove. The 12x16 can also sleep four good friends, five close friends, or six family members. It’s entirely up to you!

Most often, hunting season takes place in the fall and winter, when the weather is typically cooler. The Centennial Wall Tent features various elements to keep you comfortable and dry during your expedition. For example, a sod cloth is sewn into the bottom perimeter to give you a weather seal inside the tent. The Army Duck Fabric used exclusively for Rainier Outdoor products is the very best wall tent fabric. It will keep you cozy and warm in the most severe weather or cool in the summer. Each standard Wall Tent package includes a 5” reinforced stove jack insert.

Each Centennial Wall Tent is manufactured at a standard 5’ wall height allowing a roomy feel, even for those tall hunters. The 5’ wall height provides plenty of space for a woodstove, furniture like cots or side tables, and space to stand up and move around freely. We know how important it is to feel comfortable indoors during your winter adventure – you’ll feel comfortable spending time in the tent while you’re on the hunt.

Quick Tips

  1. Make sure you set up camp on level ground that is equipped for proper anchoring. This will make a huge difference when you set up the wall tent and stake your grommets into the ground.
  2. The Army Duck Canvas is made with 100% cotton, which means it’ll shrink up to 4% after it’s been exposed to the elements. It’s important that you stake out the grommet points to make the tent completely taut.
  3. While you’re on the hunt, we highly recommend upgrading from floor sleeping to a thin mat or cot setup. It’ll help you stay warm throughout the entire night and sleep comfortably.
  4. Don’t forget your Wall Tent Vinyl Rain Fly on your adventure! Toss a rain fly over your tent in wet weather conditions to reduce the weight and water put on the tent.
